What is luxury vinyl and how is it made?

Luxury Vinyl Tile
Designed to mimic the look of natural stone or ceramic tile, with hyper-realistic colors and textures that make these tiles look and feel just like the real thing! Some of the designs that we carry from Shaw Floors are even made to be installed using real grout for another layer of authenticity.

Luxury Vinyl Plank
Serves the same function as LVT – but in the look of natural hardwood planks, instead. You’ll find these in just as wide of a variety of styles, including hand-scraped wood. LVP can be installed more easily than real hardwood, in uniform lines, staggered patterns, or even diagonal layouts for a fully customizable look

Sheet Vinyl
A cushioned sheet of vinyl and gets adhered directly to your subflooring in one piece. You’ll find Shaw Floors sheet vinyl designs at Payless Design Flooring that are as beautiful as our LVT and LVP styles, at an even more affordable cost. One thing to consider – the level of realism of LVT and LVP can’t be matched by sheet vinyl.

The Benefits of Luxury Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl floors offer a level of realism unlike anything else. They are made with a protective top layer that can withstand harsh conditions and a cushioned core layer that is sure to provide a soft underfoot comfort in every room. Due to the protective top layer, vinyl floors are also waterproof which means you don't need to stress about those accidental spills.

While vinyl floors look like hardwood and tiles, they are much more affordable than traditional stone and wood. FAQs of Vinyl Flooring

Does luxury vinyl need to be acclimated before installation?

Yes! Be sure to obtain your product at least 48 hours before installation and leave it in the room in which it will be installed. This will allow the planks or tiles to acclimate to your room’s climate. Once installed, luxury vinyl will not expand or contract from moisture.

Can I wet-mop a wood-look vinyl floor?

Yes! Most luxury vinyl products are water-resistant, if not waterproof. You can use a wet mop to clean your vinyl floor, but don’t let puddles sit! Standing water could cause damage. Be sure to dry your floors promptly if any puddles occur.

What’s the difference between vinyl and linoleum flooring?

Linoleum is actually a type of vinyl flooring, but it’s fallen out of fashion. Modern luxury vinyl floors have advanced far past traditional linoleum in terms of style and performance capability.

What’s meant by LVT and LVP?

These acronyms actually refer to the same thing, just in different forms. Both are luxury vinyl products. LVT stands for luxury vinyl tile, made to look and feel like ceramic or stone tile flooring. LVP stands for luxury vinyl plank, made to look and feel like natural hardwood.

​Can I install vinyl floors over my existing floor?

​Yes! New vinyl floors can float over existing tile, provided that the surface is secure and smooth. You may need to level the tile with a special compound, first.
